Moorhead puts out call for volunteersMOORHEAD – With sandbag deployment beginning today, the city of Moorhead has put out a call for volunteers to help build sandbag levees.
Homeowners will be building backyard sandbag levees, and several homeowners have requested volunteer assistance to protect their homes, according to a release from the city. The city will coordinate volunteer availability with homeowner needs.
To register a volunteer group, call (218) 299-5107 or send an email to mhdvol@cityofmoorhead.
com. Volunteers can also register through FirstLink at (701) 476-4000 and request a Moorhead sandbagging location.
Volunteers will be asked for group size and times they are available to work. Volunteers will be responsible for their own transportation, and no portable restrooms will be provided. The American Red Cross and Salvation Army will provide food.
Homeowners needing volunteers should make requests through their zone leaders. Contact information for all Moorhead zone leaders is posted at www.cityofmoorhead.com/flood.
The release stated that it is important to get sandbag levees completed by Sunday to be prepared for a rapid melt.
