Fargo Police Department reminds public about flood-related ordinances

FARGO – With floodwaters rising along the Red River, Fargo police issued a reminder about flood-related city ordinances, specifically those enacted under city ordinance 10-0318, when Mayor Dennis Walaker declared a state of emergency March 25.

City ordinance prohibits the following:

• Climbing on or destroying a levy.

• Driving on a levy.

• Entering an area deemed off-limits or restricted by city officials.

• Operating a watercraft that damages flood protection efforts by, for instance, creating a wake or striking a levy.

A violation of city ordinance 10-0318 mandates an appearance in municipal court and may result in a maximum fine of $500.

Driving around a barricade is a violation of city ordinance 08-1301D, which carries a $20 fine.
