Roxana Saberi to speak at Concordia graduation

MOORHEAD – Concordia College will present about 588 bachelor’s degrees and 10 master of education degrees during its commencement ceremony at 2:30 p.m. May 5 in Memorial Auditorium.

Roxana Saberi, class of 1997 author, journalist and human rights advocate, will speak at the ceremony.

Saberi has spoken across the United States and traveled to Europe, South America and the Middle East to speak with the public, media and government officials about human rights violations in Iran.

Living and working in Iran since 2003, Saberi was working on a book in 2009 when arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison on a charge of espionage.

She was released after an Iranian court overturned her sentence.
