Not guilty plea entered in cattle starvation caseASHLEY, N.D. – A McIntosh County man has pleaded not guilty to charges he starved about 100 cattle to death on his land.
James Schnabel, 44, is charged in McIntosh County court with four counts of misdemeanor overworking, mistreating or abandoning animals, all Class A misdemeanors.
Prosecutor Gerald Kuhn said Schnabel is free on his own recognizance.
Court documents state Schnabel told the county sheriff that stray dogs had chased some of the cattle into a shed in January, causing trampling and suffocation.
His next court appearance is set for May 28.
