Load limits in place on all highways in NDBISMARCK — It's spring in North Dakota, even if the snow-covered countryside doesn't look like it. And that means load restrictions on roads.
The state Transportation Department said load limits were in effect Monday on all state and federal highways in North Dakota. The seasonal load restrictions typically are first implemented in the southwest and then extended north and east as spring progresses.
The weight restrictions guard against damage to roads made susceptible by the spring thaw. They're lifted when roadbeds have stabilized enough to handle normal traffic.
