Fire destroys barn; kills sheep near CrookstonCROOKSTON, Minn. - Fire destroyed a barn and killed several sheep early Sunday near here.
The wooden granary, approximately 22-by-36 feet, was gully engulfed and collapsed when Crookston Fire Department arrived at the scene after the alarm at 4:32 a.m., according to a spokesman for the fire department.
The barn is located at the residence of Darin and Mandy Gudvangen, located between Crookston and Gentilly, Minn.
One ewe and six lambs died in the fire, which fire officials believe started in the northeast corner of the building, where a heat lamp was being used, according to a news release.
Farm and construction supplies also were destroyed. A damage estimate has not been released yet.
Polk County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the fire.
