Letter: Sandbag efforts very successfulI want to thank everyone who has assisted in the production of over 1 million sandbags. FirstLink helps the cities and counties with volunteer management during disasters. As a volunteer center we realize the difference volunteers can make every day.
I want to say that the youth of our community really stepped up and showed us what they can do. It was refreshing to hear the media report about the good things the youth of our community have accomplished these past days by sandbagging. We are blessed to have such a caring community. Our youth have been able to learn a lot, including:
• How they can make a positive difference in their community.
• Collectively they can accomplish great things.
• Youth can be great role models.
• We learn in and out of the classroom.
• We need social and physical interactions to grow strong.
Thank you to everyone who has helped, and please keep calling the flood helpline (701-476-4000) to see what volunteer needs we will have going forward in the flood fight of 2013.
Remember FirstLink wants to be that “first link” to the community when you need us, whether you call the 24-hour helpline, suicide lifeline or help volunteer. Together we can make a difference. Hope begins here.
