Dave Lawrence named Moorhead High principal

MOORHEAD – Moorhead High School will have a familiar face as its new principal in the coming school year, the district announced Friday.

Assistant Principal Dave Lawrence has been chosen to take over from interim Principal Russ Henegar, who retires at the end of June.

The school board will be asked to approve the move on Monday.

School board documents show that Lawrence will be paid $119,320 for the coming school year, starting July 1.

Lawrence has worked for Moorhead public schools since 2000. He’s been an assistant principal at Moorhead High School since 2003. Before that, he was a middle school assistant principal for the district.

He was named Minnesota’s Assistant Principal of the Year by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals during the 2010-11 school year.

“Dave Lawrence has the skills and abilities to lead Moorhead High School into the future,” Superintendent Lynne Kovash said in a news release. “His strong commitment to our school district and community will be an asset.”

Lawrence earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in health education from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 1989.

He earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Bemidji State University in 1996.

Before coming to Moorhead Area Public Schools, he was a teacher at Park Rapids (Minn.) Middle School.

Kovash said recruitment will now begin for a high school assistant principal.
