ND abortion rights activists to circulate petitionsBISMARCK – Abortion rights activists plan to circulate petitions to bring three anti-abortion measures to a statewide vote.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger says his office approved the petitions for circulation Friday. Gary Hangsleben of Grand Forks is listed as chairman of the sponsoring committee.
One measure would require doctors performing abortions to have admitting and staff privileges at a local hospital. Another would prohibit women from having an abortion for sex selection or genetic abnormalities.
A third measure would prohibit women from having an abortion if a heartbeat is detected except to prevent death or serious impairment of the mother.
