Letter: Schultz exposes his ignorance

Ed Schultz and his recent remarks about the Fargo-Moorhead flood fight make me ashamed that he is from this area. His desire to hear his own voice makes him look and sound ignorant.

Unlike Schultz, I have worked in one of the local high schools and have had students I work with go to sandbag.

They did not go because they were forced to. They did not do it because an adult told them, “Do it or else!” They went to prepare sandbags as part of a community volunteer experience, to help their neighbors, to spend time with their friends, and in some cases, to prepare sandbags for their own homes.

Parents and schools alike both try to teach these kids the value of volunteering, partnership and community pride. How does sandbagging not fit into that mold perfectly?

Ed Schultz is not here fighting this flood fight. He is not down at Sandbag Central doing his part, sweating away pain and hard work like those students and adults. His hot air and condescending opinions can be kept to himself because they are not helping anyone but his ego.
