2 burglary suspects arrested after standoff in Grand Rapids

Two burglary suspects are in custody after a two-hour standoff with police in Grand Rapids on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 600 block of Pokegama Avenue North at about 2:10 p.m. on a report of a burglary in progress. On arrival, officers saw a person matching the description of one of the suspects; the suspect fled on foot into a nearby residence.

Officers set up a perimeter around the residence and identified two suspects — an adult male and a juvenile male — who were inside the building. A crisis negotiator made contact with the suspects and was able to get them to exit the residence at about 4:30 p.m. They were arrested without incident; no injuries were reported.

The suspects are in custody pending formal charges. The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office assisted Grand Rapids police.
