Trade Talk: Site cleared for new Bottle Barn

A building in south Fargo that in the past was home to several restaurants has been torn down, with plans for a new Bottle Barn Liquors store to take its place.

Construction of the new store at 2515 S. University Drive will happen over the summer.

Joel Wold, owner of three Bottle Barn stores in the Fargo-Moorhead area, said he hopes to see the new store open by October.

When that happens, Wold plans to close the Bottle Barn in the Kmart Plaza on South University Drive.

That will leave him with the new store, one in West Fargo and one in Moorhead.

Wold said one reason he’s making the change is because the current 4,500-square-foot store in the Kmart Plaza no longer has enough room.

“We’re just jam-packed here,” he said.

The new store will have about 12,000 square feet and there will be room for a tenant to share the space, Wold said.

Businesses that were once located in the building that was torn down include the North American Steak Buffet and the El Mezcal Mexican Restaurant.

Gastropub expands

Fargo Billiards & Gastropub is planning a $750,000 project it will dub Gastropub Backyard just east of the Gastropub at 3234 43rd St. S.

The 32,000-square-foot Backyard will have:

•More than 3,000 feet of decking for outdoor dining and socializing.

•A picnic shelter.

•A service building with a full outdoor bar and picnic tables, and an area for outdoor games including beanbag toss and ladder golf.

There will also be three lighted sand volleyball courts for coed and 21-and-over volleyball leagues four nights a week.

Areas of the Backyard will be available to rent for private functions.

The volleyball leagues will be open to players of all levels, including beginners.

The leagues will play two six-week sessions, with the first from June 1 to July 28, and the second session from July 29 to Sept. 9.

The cost for each session is $160, plus tax, per team.
