Letter: Be careful about ‘neighborhood’Recent letters to The Forum by Merrill Piepkorn (March 31) and Deborah Frederickson (April 6) in support of neighborhood schools” have been far too “neighborly.” Piepkorn uses “neighbor” or “neighborhood” 15 times in his letter, while Frederickson tops him with 17. Mister Rogers would be proud.
Because the Fargo School District doesn’t have unlimited funds to support the emotional needs of every student, parent or homeowner living in a “school neighborhood,” they will need to base their decisions on facts and reasoning.
Do they want to pump millions of dollars into old and undersized schools?
Would the students be better served if two old schools are razed and replaced with one modern building?
Having seen the interiors of some of the older elementary schools in Fargo, I would prefer to send my children an extra six blocks to a new school.
