Hospital: University of Wisconsin student with meningitis is deadMADISON, Wis. — A University of Wisconsin-Madison student hospitalized with bacterial meningitis has died.
A spokeswoman for Meriter Hospital in Madison confirms the death of 21-year-old senior Henry Mackaman of St. Paul, Minn.
The university says Mackaman's family removed him from life support and is donating his organs.
Mackaman was an economics and English double major. The university says he was known for his love of music and was a DJ on WSUM student radio.
The university says meningococcal disease is not highly contagious, and there is likely no health risk to others on campus.
