Letter: City’s residents take pride in helping othersI was a part of a ninth-grade group that helped sandbag during the 1997 flood. It was eye-opening even then. We saw people who had been at sites laying bags for what looked like days. We were happy to help, and most of us wanted and requested to do so.
Fast-forward to recent floods. Some of those guys I sandbagged with, we made the decision more than once that instead of going out, we would go sandbag. It was not a matter of poor or rich. It was taking pride in living in a city that cares for each other and will fight to protect it.
