Northern Cass approves bond for school addition

HUNTER, N.D. – Voters here in the Northern Cass School District overwhelmingly passed a $2.5 million bond referendum on Tuesday that will fund adding eight classrooms and more lockers to the school.

Northern Cass Superintendent Allen Burgad said the referendum passed with 82.5 percent, or 338 votes, in favor of the bond over 72 “no” votes.

The last time the district asked voters to approve a bond referendum was in 1999, when the district built a new high school, a debt that will be paid off in 2017, Burgad said.

Bond payments on the new referendum will not begin until 2018.

The school’s enrollment has been on steady increase growing from 435 students in 1997 to 558 in 2012.
