Deal in works to reopen pasta plant in CandoCANDO, N.D. – A shuttered pasta factory in Cando could reopen soon.
Officials hope to close a deal to purchase the former Noodles By Leonardo plant by the end of the month, according to JoAnn Rodenbiker, director of the Towner County Economic Development Corp.
The local buyers include brothers Jim and Bruce Gibbens, who operate a 12,000-head pig farm near Cando.
“The idea of the plant reopening is good news for Cando,” said Jim Gibbens, who also is president of the Economic Development Corp. and former Cando mayor.
He declined to provide additional details until the purchase is final.
The Noodles plant closed in October, about six months after a sister plant closed in Devils Lake, about 35 miles to the southeast.
The Devils Lake plant was sold last year to Ultra Green Packaging, a Twin Cities-based company that manufactures biodegradable food service products such as disposable plates.
