Tuesday Tip: Brining gives new T-shirts a vintage feel

Each Tuesday we offer up a quick tip on anything from money-saving tricks to household how-tos.

FARGO – T-shirts serve as a weekend staple in my wardrobe, but I’m a bit picky.

It’s just cotton, I know. But despite adding new tees to my collection, it’s always the oldies I grab first. The soft, been-washed-20-times feel is something newer shirts just can’t duplicate.

Until now.

Brining makes a new shirt old in just three days.

Here's how:

New tee

1 quart water

½ cup salt

Soak your T-shirt in the water-salt mixture for three days. It’s good to give the water a stir every day or so.

Remove from water and machine wash with regular detergent. Tumble dry.
