Twin Cities volunteers help with Fargo sandbagging

FARGO — The city of Fargo is getting help from other states in its quest to fill a million sandbags to prepare for expected spring flooding.

Volunteers from the Headwaters Relief organization in Minneapolis-St. Paul were among the workers last week when Fargo kicked off its sandbag filling operations.

Headwaters volunteer Jason Hoffrogge tells KMSP-TV that filling sandbags is out of the ordinary and he looks at it as an opportunity to help people.

About 476,000 sandbags were filled in four days last week. Volunteer operations at so-called Sandbag Central are set to resume Monday morning.

The National Weather Service says the Red River has a 50 percent chance of reaching 38 feet later this month, which would be the fifth highest flood of all time.
