Editorial: Essentia project wins rosesPRAIRIE ROSES: To Essentia Health on the health care company’s announcement last week of a major expansion of its south Fargo hospital. The new $80 million wing will house 28 beds with room for 28 more when needed, in addition to suites for several state-of-the-art medical procedures, including interventional radiology and heart catheterization procedures. The investment confirms Essentia’s commitment to offering patients choice in the Fargo-Moorhead health care sector. It also demonstrates continued faith in the strength of the region’s economy, and the growing need for high-quality health care services.
LEAFY SPURGE: To a North Dakota State University System spokesperson who, when responding to yet more complaints against Chancellor Hamid Shirvani and the State Board of Higher Education, said the complaints “seem to be based on rumors and misinformation.” The latest salvo came last week from former Valley City State University President Ellen Chaffee. It’s a request to the Higher Learning Commission, an accrediting agency, to investigate concerns about the leadership of the NDUS. It seems only Shirvani and his supporters in the office and on the board don’t recognize that there are genuine concerns among North Dakotans who understand, value and support higher education. Yet, all that comes from the system office and board are conclusions the complaints are “rumor and misinformation.” Eventually they will realize they cannot circle the wagons forever.
