Protesters unhappy with Heitkamp’s pipeline supportFARGO – Some Fargo-area residents are unhappy about Sen. Heidi Heitkamp’s support of the Keystone XL oil pipeline.
About 30 people gathered Friday in downtown Fargo to protest the project, which would transport Canadian oil from Alberta that’s produced from tar sands.
Sarah Vlasak, a student at Concordia College in neighboring Moorhead, says there are “so many things wrong” with the pipeline and believes it would damage the environment.
Heitkamp says the pipeline is an essential component to the energy industry. She says a federal study found no evidence that the pipeline would cause significant harm.
