Western ND national park planning prescribed firesBISMARCK — Several prescribed fires are planned in North Dakota's Theodore Roosevelt National Park within the next three months.
The National Park Service says three separate areas covering a total of about 3,000 acres could receive burn treatments, including one in the park's North Unit and two in the South Unit.
The burn is meant to restore fire to areas of the park that have been subjected to natural, periodic wildfires.
The project will depend on weather and grassland conditions. The park planned prescribed fires last year but scrapped them because of dry conditions in the region.
Information about the burns will be posted on the park's website at www.nps.gov/thro .
