Detroit Lakes man gets prison for having child porn

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. - A Detroit Lakes man has been convicted and sentenced in Becker County District Court on seven felony counts of possessing child pornography.

Christopher Damian Gessel, 35, of 3094 Kennedy Acres Road, Detroit Lakes, was ordered to serve a total of 84 months (seven years) in prison and fined $210.

Gessell was charged after a search warrant was executed at his home on June 13, 2012. Gessel was the target of an ongoing investigation by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation as well as the Moorhead and Detroit Lakes police departments.

A computer identified as being owned by Gessell had allegedly been associated with the sharing of images and videos featuring children engaged in pornographic acts.

When the search warrant was executed, his computer along with several discs reportedly containing photos and videos were seized.

According to the complaint, investigation later revealed that one of the discs contained more than 640 photos and 43 videos, all featuring children under the age of 6 engaged in pornographic sexual acts.

Gessel was convicted of possessing child pornography in 2004, and required to register as a predatory offender.
