Fire kills dog, cats at Moorhead homeMOORHEAD – A residential fire in south Moorhead took the lives of one dog and two cats Wednesday evening.
Crews responded to the fire at 2822 Brookdale Road at around 5:30 p.m., said Bert McDonough, who was the department’s acting captain on scene.
There was light smoke on the first floor of the home when firefighters arrived, McDonough said. The fire, which started in the basement, was put out in about 10 minutes, he said.
Firefighters stayed on scene for about two more hours, making sure the flames hadn’t spread to anywhere else in the home.
No people were injured, McDonough said, but the family was sad about the loss of their pets.
“Tougher than seeing the pets was seeing the family,” he said.
He didn’t have an estimate on the fire’s damage and didn’t know the cause.
The fire is still under investigation.
