Thursday review: Twistbands help perk up your ponytails

FARGO – My hair is pulled back in a ponytail at least three days a week, and Twistbands make my no-time-for-hair days feel less frumpy.

I first tried the headband style of the Twistband when I received it in my March Birchbox (a beauty subscription service that sends out samples of beauty and lifestyle products once a month).

I was immediately hooked. The thin, elastic silver headband worked perfectly wrapped around my ponytail as a hair tie.

The hold wasn’t too loose or too tight, and it didn’t leave a large kink in my hair after I took it off. I also like the knot in the elastic because it adds detail to the band.

I didn’t like it, however, when I tried it out as a headband while working out. It slipped back on my head and didn’t keep flyaways out of my face.

Since they are rather slippery, people with thin hair might have trouble using Twistbands in place of typical ponytail ties or headbands.

While they’re not my choice for a workout headband, I like the bands for giving my everyday ponytails and side braids a fresh, fun look. They can even be worn as bracelets when they’re not in your hair.

Twistbands come in a variety of stylish colors in headband length and hair tie style. They’re available on Birchbox’s website, and the price for a pack of six headbands (my preferred style for ponytails) is $19. They’re also for sale on Twistband’s website, www.thetwistband.com.

At approximately $3.16 per headband, they’re overpriced but convenient for people who want something stylish and easy to add to their hair routine.

Bottom line: Twistbands are a fun, stylish option for a ponytail perk-up.
