Letter: Rain of solidarity with Father JackI would like to thank Robin Huebner and The Forum for sharing the story of the devastating rains that fell in Chimbote, Peru, on March 17 and how they’re affecting the desperately poor people served by the Rev. Jack Davis and Sister Peggy Byrne’s mission.
To the many generous people of the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding community, I thank you for your generous response to Friends of Chimbote’s call for emergency funds to help repair and rebuild the woven-reed homes within our mission neighborhoods. The kind hearts and giving attitude of this community, even as many of you are preparing to fight another flood battle here at home, is truly inspiring.
Pope Francis recently said, “Today amid so much darkness, we need to see the light of hope and to be men and women who bring hope to others.” This is the goal of Friends of Chimbote and because of the generosity of this community and our faithful donors, Father Davis and Sister Byrne, along with countless other staff and volunteers, have been able to bring hope to Chimbote’s poor.
Thank you and Happy Easter to you all.
Trnka is executive director, Friends of Chimbote.
