Letter: Farmers, hold back the waterThis is a letter of request from area residents to local farmers:
We appreciate your hard work, and the benefit you bring to the economy. But can we request that you consider holding some water for just a few days during this year’s flood? You have done a great job at emptying your fields quite quickly, with the addition of drain tiles, field slopping, widening and deepening the ditches.
Was there any thought put forth to the ability to adjust the amount of runoff, or was the only goal just to get the water that was once held on the land to move as fast as possible into the river via whatever means possible?
We all have a part in the outcome of a flood, and sometimes a matter of inches would be enough to help keep many of us dry. So, local farmers, we residents ask this: Is it possible that you would help all of us this year in dealing with the flood, just for a few days, and a few inches?
