Veterans group backs gun background checksFARGO – A national veterans group is backing a TV campaign to support background checks on gun sales in North Dakota.
VoteVets.org, which bills itself as the nation’s largest progressive veterans group, said in a news release on Thursday it is launching $150,000 of TV ads to air in the state.
The ad features Iraq war veteran and Purple Heart recipient Glenn Kunkel, who fires an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle at a mannequin.
“I needed a background check to carry similar weapons in combat. We should require the same here at home.” Text on the ad then says, “If our troops need a background check, so should criminals.”
