Store accused of selling fake brand-fame clothes

BISMARCK – Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem on Thursday ordered the owner of a Jamestown store to stop doing business in the state, accusing him of selling fake merchandise.

Adrian Scott Williams, owner of Spotlight Clothing & Accessories in Jamestown and New Millenium Productions in Wauwatosa, Wis., is suspected of violating North Dakota’s consumer fraud and business registration laws.

After receiving information that Williams was selling counterfeit merchandise in his Jamestown retail store and distributing advertising in the area claiming that the merchandise was brand-name merchandise, an investigation by the Consumer Protection Division found alleged misrepresentations in advertisements.

Jamestown police executed a search warrant and found numerous items that appeared to have counterfeit brand marks, such as fake North Face clothing.

A criminal case is still pending.
