Moorhead youth to skate out flag at Wild gameMOORHEAD – Cullen Gess wasn’t sure at first if he wanted to skate onto the ice before Saturday’s Minnesota Wild game against the Los Angeles Kings.
But after giving it some thought, the 11-year-old from Moorhead decided he will carry the Minnesota state of hockey flag before 18,000 fans at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
He was chosen from a list of applicants, ages 8 to 12, as part of the Wild’s flag bearer promotion.
“He was a little hesistant at first, thinking how many thousands of people would be watching him,” said his mother, Stephanie. “But he’s pretty darned excited about it now.”
It will be Cullen’s first Wild game. And he will be on the ice, with a spotlight shining on him, near one of his favorite Wild players: Matt Cullen of Moorhead.
