Grand Forks Herald managing editor Matt Cory named Bemidji Pioneer’s new editorGRAND FORKS - After 19 years with the Herald, Managing Editor Matt Cory has accepted a job as editor of the Bemidji Pioneer.
Cory said he will start his new job in mid-April. He will replace Steve Wagner, who was named editor of the Herald earlier this month.
He said he was taking over the Pioneer as newspapers are changing but retaining their importance in communities.
“We have to be a lot of different things to different people,” Cory said. “You want to cover the big stories but you want to tell the stories of individual people within the community as well.”
Cory, 42, has held several jobs at the Herald, including reporting on business and sports and working as copy editor, night editor and city editor.
“We are fortunate to hire an editor of Matt Cory’s skills and experience,” said Pioneer Publisher Dennis Doeden. “Matt has a passion for newspapers, and I am excited to add him to our leadership team in Bemidji.”
