Plane makes emergency landing near Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. - A Faulkton, S.D., man successfully landed an airplane in a snow-covered field Wednesday, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The forced landing happened at 1:45 p.m. in a field located a half mile south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and N.D. Highway 46.

Keith Melius, 46, was flying a 1978 Cessna 172 when the plane’s engine started having mechanical problems, the patrol said. Melius maintained control of the airplane during the landing and no injuries were reported.

The extent of damage to the plane has not yet been determined.

The incident remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration, the patrol said.
