Man accused of stealing ATM in Black BuildingFARGO – A Fargo man is accused of swiping an ATM from the Black Building downtown after sheriff’s deputies say they found him in possession of the heavily damaged cash machine, $485 and a stolen hand dolly.
Christopher Michael Vendlinski, 38, is facing a Class C felony theft of property in Cass County District Court.
According to charges filed Friday, police believe the theft happened Feb. 2, the same day Vendlinksi was arrested on an outstanding warrant – found in a vehicle intoxicated with the ATM, cash and dolly.
The dolly had Bertrosa’s written on it and was reported stolen by the owner of the restaurant, which is in the Black Building. The owner of the ATM said the machine was worth $2,500 and contained about $700.
In a phone interview with police, Vendlinksi admitted he’d taken the ATM and dolly and said he’d made a mistake, though he didn’t recall many specifics, according to a police report filed with the charge. He also said he had a second person with him but would not tell police who, the report states.
He told police he was out of state because he was helping look for his missing mother, police reports say.
An initial court date has not yet been set.
