Nearly 30 from Fargo's 119th Security Forces Squadron deployed to AfghanistanFARGO – Nearly 30 members of the North Dakota Air National Guard’s 119th Security Forces Squadron are deploying to Afghanistan for six months.
The deployment, made quietly earlier this month, comes after a nearly three-month hiatus from overseas deployments.
North Dakota Gov. Jack Dalrymple praised the airmen and thanked them for their sacrifices during two send-off ceremonies in Fargo between training in Florida, Nevada and Texas.
“Your professional skills and Happy Hooligan pride and dedication will surely make this another successful mission,” said Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk, the North Dakota adjutant general.
The airmen will take on base security and escort duties in Afghanistan, the Guard said.
Since the 2001 terrorist attacks on America, the North Dakota National
Guard has mobilized more than 3,900 soldiers and about 2,400 airmen in
support of the global war on terrorism.
About 70 North Dakota Guardsmen are overseas.
