Slow-moving train hits car in north Fargo
The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. at the train crossing just north of the intersection at 12th Avenue North and 18th Street North, said acting Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Waller. The crossing is marked, but does not have crossing arms.
“A train was trying to make this crossing into NDSU going at a slow rate of speed, and this distracted lady driver just didn’t see the train for whatever reason and got hit by the slow-moving train,” he said.
Waller said a Burlington Northern employee at the scene told him the train was moving about 3 mph.
He said the crash didn’t cause any leaks or require much cleanup.
Waller said even with the slow speed and small number of cars attached to the engine, the train had plenty of momentum against the driver’s car.
More information, including the name of the driver, wasn’t immediately available Monday.
