Woman dies in crash west of AmidonAMIDON, N.D. – A 30-year-old Rhame woman was killed Saturday afternoon in a head-on collision while trying to negotiate a curve along ice-covered Highway 85 west of here, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The woman, whose name was withheld, was southbound along the curve in a 2009 Ford Fusion, the patrol said. At the same time, a 55-year-old man from Perryton, Texas, was heading northeast around the curve in a 2002 Mack semi truck hauling a flatbed trailer.
The woman lost control of the car and slid into the truck’s lane, with the car’s passenger side sliding in front of the semi, the patrol said. Both vehicles ended up in a ditch.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and the car’s airbag deployed. The truck driver, whose name was also withheld, was uninjured.
Wind was causing snow to blow across the highway at the time of the crash, and highway patrol Sgt. Steven Fischer said weather and road conditions were a factor.
The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol and the Bowman County Sheriff’s Office. The Slope County Sheriff’s Office, the Amidon and Bowman Fire and Rescue Departments and the Bowman Ambulance Service responded.
