Andrea Hummel hired as new Fargo South volleyball coachFARGO – The Fargo South volleyball program has a new coach.
South activities director Cory Lehman confirmed on Thursday that Andrea Hummel has been hired as the school’s head volleyball coach.
Hummel – who is a teacher in the Fargo Public Schools District – was an assistant volleyball coach at South the last two years under Andrea Harmon, who resigned from her post last month.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to coach this team,” Hummel said. “There is a lot of talent returning to the team and I’m looking forward to next season.”
South was 14-49 in the two seasons Harmon was head coach and finished the 2012 season 7-24.
The Bruins only graduate four seniors from their varsity roster.
“We have to find the best way to utilize our talent,” Hummel said. “We have a lot of players that got some good varsity experience last year.”
Hummel’s hire only leaves one FPS high school volleyball coaching vacancy remaining. South, Fargo Davies and Fargo North all had volleyball coaching openings at the same time. Melissa Wilson was hired at Davies last month. North’s opening has yet to be filled.
