Weekend watch: Authors Louise Erdrich and Domingo Martinez

Concordia’s National Book Awards event is always a highlight of the local literary calendar, but this year it shines even brighter. Tonight features a return visit from Wahpeton, N.D., native and former Fargo resident, Louise Erdrich, whose novel, “The Round House,” won this year’s award for best fiction.

The book tells the story of a 13-year-old boy out for justice after his mother is raped on a North Dakota reservation. Erdrich and Domingo Martinez, a finalist for his memoir “The Boy Kings of Texas,” read from and discuss their works tonight.

The event, moderated by NPR’s Neal Conan, starts at 7:30 p.m. in Knutson Center Centrum, Concordia College. It is free and open to the public. (218) 299-4541.
