Letter: Two issues to consider in ND higher ed messRegarding Forum Editor Matt Von Pinnon’s March 10 commentary on the chancellor and the State Board of Higher Education:
If a closed meeting or meetings were held at the direction of the chancellor and participated in by the board members in violation of state law, then we have two issues:
1. The board members who willingly consented to participate in a closed meeting or should have known better are culpable to violating state law. This would be a serious action while not standing up to the chancellor and saying: “We cannot do this.”
2. When the chancellor calls a special closed meeting or meetings and violates the state open meeting laws, then perhaps he should be fired. This would negate an expensive buyout.
