Style Profile: Boutique owner values vintage style
Kinslow’s love for high-quality clothing and boutique atmospheres led her to open Violet Vintage last fall.
I spotted Kinslow at her shop looking exactly how she describes her style – vintage, classic and bohemian.
What are you wearing today?
A classic Anne Klein dress, sweater from Laurie’s (Fargo women’s boutique), vintage Coro choker, flower bracelet by Hidie Larson (local jewelry designer), ankle booties from Herberger’s, vintage Ayala Bar earrings and vintage bag from my store.
What’s so special about vintage clothing and accessories?
I like the surprise of vintage.
I found a quote when I was searching for vintage glove pricing, and I think it sums up why I love vintage clothing so much: Vintage is full of fabulous patina, love and age.
What’s your favorite vintage find?
A black wool crepe suit by Reed Scranton – I could put that on now and feel just as great in it as I did 15 years ago. It’s a forever, timeless style.
Where do you like to shop?
St. Vincent de Paul, 109 Consign, The Classic and T.J.Maxx.
What’s your style philosophy?
Style is a reflection of one’s own creative individuality. Follow your own creative view.
Who are your style icons?
Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and for a contemporary icon, Adele. Her style is really beautiful.
Has your style changed throughout the years?
I think that now, I’m more comfortable enjoying the freedom of my style.
Have you always been interested in fashion?
I’ve always had an interest in beautiful clothing and fabrics.
I remember going with my mom to Mandel’s and Black’s (Fargo clothing stores) and admiring the fine fabrics. Some of my favorites are brocade, velvet, wool crepe and rayon.
