Mandan, Jamestown win girls consolation games

BISMARCK – Mandan and Jamestown will meet for the consolation championship in the North Dakota Class A girls high school basketball tournaments.

Mandan and Jamestown advanced to today’s 9:30 a.m. consolation final with consolation semifinal wins Friday. Mandan beat Grand Forks Red River 62-56 and Jamestown downed Wahpeton 86-65.

Kayla Howling Wolf had 20 points to lead Mandan to its win. Courtney Goetz and Hannah Hanson added 11 each for the Braves, who rallied from a 36-30 halftime deficit.

Ellie Ripplinger’s 20 points led Red River, with Nikki LaDouceur scoring 16 and Jennifer Trader 12.

Jamestown held only a 42-38 halftime lead. But the Blue Jays broke loose in the second half, outscoring the Huskies 44-27.

Kyra Dewald had 21 of her game-high 30 points in the final 18 minutes to lead Jamestown. Paige Peterson had a double double for the Blue Jays with 25 points and 14 rebounds.

Lachelle Bumgarner paced Wahpeton with 14 points, followed by Whitney Klosterman (13) and Allison Albrecht (12).
