Winter storm watch in effect until late Friday for Red River ValleyFARGO – A winter storm moving into the region tonight could hamper travel with blowing snow and freezing rain, the National Weather Service says.
A winter storm watch is in effect from late tonight through late Friday night for the Red River Valley and Devils Lake areas.
A band of snow will begin to move into the Devils Lake basin around midnight, spreading south and east into Friday, the weather service says.
The weather service is uncertain about where the heaviest snow will fall but said more than 6 inches is possible in the Devils Lake basin by Friday evening. Farther south and east into the Red River Valley, 3 to 5 inches is possible, along with the possibility of blowing and drifting snow.
Freezing rain also could coat roads with ice in southeastern North Dakota, the weather service said, noting the storm could significantly affect travel into the weekend.
