Jackknifed semi forces temporary closure of westbound I-94 near Downer exitMOORHEAD – The Minnesota State Patrol temporarily closed westbound Interstate 94 this morning near the Downer exit so crews could remove a jackknifed semitrailer that was blocking traffic.
The semi jackknifed into the median at about 6:25 a.m. at Mile Marker 14, partially blocking the westbound lanes, Sgt. Jesse Grabow said. Two westbound vehicles that were trying to slow down to avoid the semi also collided, but no one was injured, he said.
A tow truck was hooked up to the semi at 7:51 a.m. to pull it out, and Grabow said he expected westbound I-94 to reopen by around 8:15 a.m. Westbound traffic was being diverted at the Downer exit.
Icy road conditions continued to be a problem for drivers this morning after contributing to 18 crashes in west-central Minnesota through 8 p.m. Tuesday, and the State Patrol reminded motorists to slow down. Grabow said that while conditions aren’t as bad as on Tuesday, roadways are “very slick” in spots.
