NDSU's Amy Anderson ties NCAA career wins record

PRIMM, Nev. – North Dakota State senior women’s golfer Amy Anderson tied an NCAA career record Tuesday with her 17th victory.

Anderson won the Jackrabbit Invitational by 14 shots. Her 17th victory matches the unofficial NCAA record set by San Jose State’s Juli Inkster, according to Golf World.

Inkster is an LPGA golfer.

“(Inkster) is a great player and has had just a fantastic career,” Anderson said following her final round. “To be able to start out with something and match her record is just incredible. I’m honored to have the same record as her. But obviously, I want to break it.”

Anderson shot a 3-under 69 on Tuesday to cap a three-round tournament that she opened with two rounds of 70. No other golfer in the tournament shot 70 or under in any round.

Anderson said she estimates she has played the Primm Valley Golf Club course about 25 times in her career. It has previously hosted Summit League championships, although this season’s conference meet is in Keller, Texas.

Anderson’s 209 also broke the NDSU 54-hole record.

“The thing that was going for me was putting, which is usually my weakness,” she said. “… That was kind of the difference today. A lot of putts were going in. You can shoot well when that’s working.”

The Bison would have won the tournament by 24 shots with a 902 if not for an administrative error and disqualifications on two first-round scorecards Monday.

That kept NDSU from competing for the team title.

“There was a technicality with the scorecards,” Anderson said. “You’re supposed to have two signatures and there was only one (on two of them).”
