Letter: Cramer endorses devastating cutsRep. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., voted in favor of the sequester and endorsed the devastating cuts that will eliminate 750,000 jobs nationally, force 2,000 Defense Department worker furloughs here in North Dakota, and negatively affect our everyday lives by cutting funding for vital education and public safety programs. Cramer and 230 other members of the House voted to stick with wealthy corporations instead of standing up for the hardworking Americans he is supposed to represent in our community.
We won’t stand for this anymore. Cramer should take action to reverse these cuts. The simple solution to reverse the sequester is to close the corporate tax loopholes and use that revenue to pay down our national debt. Currently, many of the largest corporations exploit these tax loopholes to stash profits in overseas tax havens and avoid paying any taxes whatsoever. Even worse, some corporations, already making billions in profit, receive billions of taxpayer dollars in “refunds,” meaning they have higher profits after filing taxes than they did before.
It’s wrong to allow companies like GE and Facebook to cash in their tax rebates on billions of untaxed dollars in profits while simultaneously telling working families right here in North Dakota to tighten their belts.
