ND man pleads guilty for crash that killed brother

FARGO – A North Dakota man has pleaded guilty for driving drunk and causing a crash that killed his brother.

Jamie Belgarde, of St. Michael, is charged in federal court with involuntary manslaughter.

Authorities say the 38-year-old Belgarde was under the influence of alcohol and speeding last June 23 when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle vaulted, rolled and came to rest upside down in a field.

Donald Belgarde Jr., a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of eight years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled May 29 in Fargo.
