Friday night bomb threat clears Grand Forks Wal-Mart, Sam's ClubGRAND FORKS - A bomb threat called into the Wal-Mart here shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday prompted an evacuation of the store.
Police searched the building and found no evidence of a bomb, according to Sgt. Barb McLeod. She declined to comment on where the caller, a male voice, said the bomb was located.
Sam's Club, because of its close proximity to Wal-Mart, chose to evacuate voluntarily, McLeod said.
Libby Nelson, Grand Forks, was across Columbia Road in Ultracuts with her daughters when she say the first police car pull into the Wal-Mart parking lot.
"At first, we saw the one car but didn't think anything of it," she said. "Then we saw more police cars, the firetrucks and the ambulance."
While daughter Rebecca received a haircut, Nelson her other daughter, Zaya, watched dozens of cars pour out of the parking lot.
Following the evacuation, police blocked off the stores' parking lot and directed traffic away from its entrances.
"Looks like we won't be going to Wal-Mart for new shoes tonight," Nelson told her daughters before they left the salon.
