Spuds headed to consolation championship

MINNEAPOLIS - Grant Weiss and Aaron Herdt each netted a pair of goals and Tony Uglem added another, as Moorhead's boys hockey team moved on to the Class 2A consolation championship with a 5-3 win over Lakeville North Friday at Mariucci Arena.

Moorhead (15-12-2) trailed Lakeville North (11-18-1) 2-1 after one period, but Weiss tied it five minutes into the second period and the Spuds added two more in the final 10 seconds of the period from Herdt and Uglem to take a 4-2 lead into the final frame.

Lakeville North got within one with 10 minutes to go, but Herdt slammed the door with a power-play goal with 6 minutes, 20 seconds left in the game. The Spuds will play Eastview (19-10-1) for fifth place at noon Saturday.
