Basket in final minute lifts Four Winds-M to first-round win

MINOT, N.D. – Austin Longie’s basket with 45 seconds left was the game-winner as Four Winds-Minnewaukan edged Rugby 53-49 in a first-round game at the North Dakota boys Class B boys basketball tournament Thursday.

Longie’s basket gave the Indians (23-2) a 51-49 lead. Rugby appeared to tie the game in the closing seconds, but the basket was waved off for charging. Trayvon McKay added two free throws to clinch the win.

McKay led all scorers with 22 points, and Longie chipped in 17. Each had three 3-pointers.

Rugby (24-2) got 16 points from Kyle Lovcik and 12 from Kyle Halvorson.
