Dragons' Bredy earns national track awardMOORHEAD – Minnesota State Moorhead senior Derek Bredy has been named NCAA Division II national men’s athlete of the week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Bredy had a strong performance at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships last weekend, helping the Dragons to a second-place finish.
Bredy won titles in the 60 meters (6.83 seconds) and the long jump (24-1¼). He finished second in the 200 with a time of 21.69 seconds. He ran a 21.43 (converted to 21.06) in the prelims, the top time in Division II this season.
Bredy also ran a leg on the second-place 1,600 relay team and placed third in the triple jump (46-4). The 39 points he scored helped him earn NSIC High Point Performer of the Year.
